Mayme
Kratz looks to her hometown in the desert, Phoenix, as inspiration for her work.
Her sculptures and paintings made of cast resin encapsulate the landscape and
turn a magnifying glass on it, suspending bits of nature like seed pods, insect
wings, abandoned nests, and cactus within. Exploring the idea that what we
is not always what it appears to be, Kratz's sensitivity to detail produces
an exposition of the cycles of nature and the passage of time. In both sculpture
and painting Kratz expresses a reverence for the spiritual essence of nature,
helping to remind us that our time here is sacred.
