Joslin constructs a menagerie of creatures and specimens of unknown species,
captured from the collision of myth and science preserved. Some creatures are
freestanding, and have mechanisms to allow for movement. Some works have jointed
legs and twitching tails, or perhaps a beak that opens to reveal a delicate
tongue. These hybrid creatures are a fusion of disparate materials, fashioned
from scavenged relics: antique gas fixtures and fur, musical instrument keys
and bone, lamps clocks and adding machines. The parts are integrated with the
finely wrought craft of an artisan watchmaker. Each character is bestowed an
elegance of form and complexity of function, a conditional illusion of life.
